Suggested Use: Begin taking 1 capsule in the morning before food until you have assessed your tolerance. If needed, take an additional 1 capsule four to six hours later. Taraxacum Officinate (Dandelion Powder)
Dandelion has also been known to aid in weight loss due to its rich nutrient content. The leaves from the dandelion plant have been known to have diuretic ability. This is the ability to increase the flow of urine out of the body by the plant. In this manner, the plant aids in the weight loss of about 30% within a period of 30 days. The difference between the diuretic effects of dandelion compared to other brand name diuretics is the ability of dandelion to retain potassium through the process of diuresis. This then means that many of the adverse side effects of diuretic use are avoided.
Synephrine is an adrenergic agonist that has gained popularity as being an alternative to ephedrine. It is found in many species of plants, however the main source today for synephrine is citrus aurantium, also known as “bitter orange”. Once the ephedra ban took place, many supplement retailers switched ingredients to synephrine or methyl-synephrine for their fat loss products.
Methyl-Snephrine differs from standard synephrine in that it contains a superior chemical structure. Data suggests that this not only inhibits MAO activity, but also increases the compounds affinity for the beta-adrenergic receptors. There is some evidence to show that supplements containing 1,3– Dimethylamylamine can be effective when used as a fat burner. When combined with other ingredients such as caffeine, a commercial fat burner was found to have significantly decrease body weight, total fat, and appetite compared to those using a placebo (McCarthy et al, 2012a). Caffeine may be a beneficial weight loss aid for three reasons:
- A metabolite of caffeine, called paraxanthine, increases lipolysis – the breakdown of fatty acids.
- Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, increasing loss of fluid through increase in urination. Depending upon the rate of rehydration, this could also lead to a small weight loss.
- Caffeine can decrease appetite, causing less calories to be ingested.
The research on caffeine and its effectiveness on dieting and weight loss is mixed.
